Manchester United win the FA Cup and England Friendlies

After three years without a trophy, Manchester United have won the FA Cup in what is likely to be Louis van Gaal’s last game in charge before Jose Mourinho takes over at Old Trafford. The match was looking to be a disappointment until Jason Puncheon opened the scoring with a great volley in the 78th minute. Alan Pardew must have thought his team had won it, and decided to do a cracking celebratory dance, before Mata equalised three minutes later. The match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes so went into extra time. Chris Smalling was dismissed just before the half way point after received a second yellow for bringing down Yannick Bolasie. Luckily for United, Jesse Lingard smashed home a fantastic volley with the outside of the foot to dramatically win the match.

A look ahead to England…

England take on Turkey this evening (ko 17.15 – ITV 1) in a friendly ahead of this summers Euro 2016 competition. We may see Vardy and Kane start up front together, in what is arguably England’s best strike force. Rooney, Rashford and Sturridge will not feature due to their recent cup finals, so Vardy and Kane are the obvious starters, providing Hodgson starts with two up top.

Final tests – England vs Australia & England vs Portugal

Once England have faced Turkey, they will be looking ahead to Friday’s match with Australia. With the full squad available, it will be a chance for Roy Hodgson to start thinking about who will be making the final squad and going to France. The following week will see England face their toughest test before the tournament as they take on Christiano Ronaldo and co. Portugal have caused England plenty of problems over the years, knocking us out of numerous international tournaments, usually in dramatic style.
