England vs Portugal and Euro 2016 Squad

So England face Portugal tonight in their final friendly match before the Euros begin. Unsurprisingly, Christiano Ronaldo will not feature after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid last Saturday, although apparently this is a surprise to Roy Hodgson, who is annoyed that he isn’t playing. Hodgson is said to have requested to play Portugal so that his team could experience what it is like to play against a player like Ronaldo, in order to replicate what it will be like when they face Gareth Bale in their second match of Euro 2016 against Wales.

Rashford In, Drinkwater Out

This week saw Roy Hodgson finalise his squad for Euro 2016. To the surprise of many, Premier League winner, Danny Drinkwater missed out. This was all the more surprising when we saw that Jack Wilshire was included, a player who has been injured pretty much all season and has hardly played. Marcus Rashford also made the squad. The 18 year old scored on his debut against Australia last week (with his first touch), and has been in great form for Manchester United, so his inclusion was not too much of a surprise. Daniel Sturridge also made the squad, meaning it features five strikers. This abundance of strikers and lack of wide players has worried some, but I’m sure Roy knows what he’s doing!

Match Prediction

There have been some amazing matches between England and Portugal over the years. Most of them ending with England being knocked out of a tournament on penalties, so we should be in for a good game tonight, even without the presence of Christiano Ronaldo. However we believe that this game has got 1-1 written all over it. With that in mind, we predict that the match will end in a score draw.
