Boring England

Come out from under that rock!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of days, you will know that England are through to the last 16 of Euro 2016. This came after a goalless draw with Slovakia and sees England finish second in their group, after Wales beat Russia 3-0 to top the group.

Dominant England?

Many have praised England so far in this tournament for their dominant performances. But as dominant as they have been in terms of possession, they have failed to create many chances. This really begs the question as to whether any teams will really fear playing us. Especially as we haven’t played any teams that would be considered dangerous.

Who will England play in the next round?

England will now face the runner up in Group F. This opponent is likely to be Portugal or Hungary, although Austria and Iceland can both finish second. If we are to face Portugal it is unlikely to be the same half hearted team we faced in a pre-tournament friendly. This Portugal will feature a Ronaldo, who is yet to score in the tournament and is going to be eager to beat us once again. Hopefully we avoid Portugal, but whoever we do end up playing, we will need to up our game to progress.

Wales are actually pretty decent…

As mentioned previously, Wales easily beat Russia 3-0 in their final group match last night. This win will see them play the highest ranked third place team from group A, C or D. At this point in time there is no reason why Wales can’t go all the way and win the tournament. They were unlucky to lose against England, and with the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsay on form, they will be a handful for any team.
